IPhone SE 2020: Price, Specs, Release date, Flipkart

Introduction

Apple launched the new iPhone SE in April 2020 which is the successor of the iPhone SE 2016. The new iPhone SE might have the same name and the old design of the iPhone 8 but it is feature-packed with the latest technology. The iPhone SE comes in three different colors Black, White, and (Product)Red.

iPhone SE will go on sale on 20th May 2020 on Flipkart.

Design

The iPhone SE doesn't hit the market with the new design. It carries on with the iPhone 6's design which follows up with the iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, and iPhone 8. The only difference is of the material where the iPhone SE and iPhone 8 has the glass back while rest 6,6s and 7 had Aluminium back. Large and thick bezels, the same dimensions (5.45x2.65x0.29inches) as of iPhone 8, nothing has changed. Even Trump's favorite Home button with Touch ID is back in the trend. People may not notice your new iPhone SE unless and until they realize the Apple logo's position has changed, yeah, the Apple has moved down the logo to the center of the glass back. The iPhone SE is Rated IP67, giving it a maximum depth of 1 meter up to 30 minutes and also protects from dust and other solid particles. And don't expect the headphone jack in 2020.

The camera performs pretty well in good lightning conditions.  When exposed to direct sunlight the Dynamic Range does quite a good job. In day light, the shadows, color accuracy, exposure, sharpness and details nothing disappoints you and gives great quality photo. The phone has Smart HDR feature which was introduced in iPhone XS and XS Max, with this feature the camera takes multiple photos and gives a stunning photo. The Potrait Mode on iPhone is still the best when compared to other brands and the iPhone SE doesn't disappoint you in this category. Despite of having single camera, the phone provides great potrait photos, Apple does amazing job in hardware and software department. But it does not work on pets and objects, it is limited to humans only. The Selfie Camera shooter is fine not amazing I will say, Potrait Mode is good for Selfie but when there is excessive light from behind, Dynamic Range blows off the picture.

The Camera fails to impress in low light conditions. Apple didn't provide the NIGHT MODE, I want to ask Why ?  Using a single camera is a cost cutting step, we get it but Night Mode is a software thing they could have worked on it. The picture taken at night is noisy, not properly exposed, fails to show details and struggles in Potrait Mode. The same issue is seen with Selfie Camera too. But given the little artificial light,  the photo captured is good.

The camera is capable of recording 4K videos and provides the good quality videos as they say. OIS works very well when you walk, while running OIS can't keep up and video is not smooth.
The Selfie camera is limited to 1080p which does a decent job. OIS is not given for front camera. Apple has included so called "Slofie" in iPhone SE, it is definitely a thumbs down in terms of quality when compared to iPhone 11 series. You can play and enjoy Slofie, but if you plan to upload on social media the quality downgrades even more. Not recommended.

Overall the camera is good to go. This phone could have backed the tag of "Great Camera", if it was released in 2016 and apple must have sold it for 700$ or 800$. So for 399$, the camera is amazing.

  • Battery

The iPhone SE 2020 has 1821 mAh battery. Apple claims the battery lasts about the same as iPhone 8. Full charge in the morning will get you a day with a decent use. Instagram scrolling for 1 hour, watching couple of Youtube videos, using a camera occasionally, all day texting, using maps once in a while, all these factors are included in daily routine and will definitely get you through a day. It does supports 18W fast charging but the fast charger is not included in the box. It also supports Wireless Charging.

Extra Features

-The new iPhone SE now comes with the WiFi 6 and it is 40% faster than the WiFi 5.

-The phone has Dual-SIM support (Nano-SIM and eSIM).

-Sensors - Accelerometer, Proximity Sensor, Three-axis gyro, Ambient light sensor, Barometer

Is it Worth it?

Let's break it down into three points:
1. Price - The iPhone SE costs 42,500₹ (399$). Anyone with a tight budget can put the latest iPhone into their pockets. (But it is still costly in India). But if imported from US, UK or from other countries where the price is same 399$, it is worth it.
2. Performance & Updates - A13 Bionic Chip gives the flagship-level performance that is also in iPhone 11 Pro Max. Apple provides the software update for 5 years, unlike Android that gives updates for only 2 years.
3. Usage - A person with decent phone use can consider this phone. A heavy gamer, heavy camera user, and/or a person who wants a bigger battery life, this phone is not for them.
