OnePlus 8 Pro

Introduction

OnePlus launched two products, OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro with specs to compete with top brands where price plays an important role. Today, we'll talk about OnePlus 8 Pro. In 2014, the company released its first phone OnePlus One, with all the flagship-level hardware packed in a decent design. It managed to check most of the boxes and kept the price low at the same time which got people's attention. And it worked for OnePlus. Since then, OnePlus is mostly known as "Budget Killer" and/or as "Flagship Killer". But after 6 years of OnePlus line-up, in 2020 it is not a "Flagship Killer" anymore, it is straight a "Flagship".

High Performance, Great Camera, Display Quality, Big Battery or good battery backup and other few high-end specs make a flagship phone. OnePlus provides everything with being quietly better in every aspect compared to other brands. OnePlus comes in three different colors Glacial Green, Ultramarine Blue and Onyx Black.

Design

The dimension of OnePlus 8 Pro (6.51x2.93x0.33in) though do not have observable changes if compared to other previous OnePlus devices, or when held in hand the size feels the same. But the look and feel will definitely impress you. It feels Premium. OnePlus 8 Pro has Gorilla Glass 5 protection (both front & back). On the bottom, you'll find USB-C Port, Speakers and SIM Card Tray (no support for micro-SD card). On the left-Volume Buttons and on the right-Power Button and OnePlus's signature Alert Slider but no headphone jack. The phone now has a Punch-Hole selfie camera but personally, the pop-up is still my favorite. The camera bump on the phone is not as bad as the other phone out in the market but it is still annoying when used on the table, it rolls back and forth, but putting a case will work. Rest everything is great about design. OnePlus 8 Pro is the first OnePlus' device backed by the IP68 verification.

Display

OnePlus, from the last couple of years is trying to play their hand in the display department and this year they finally have the chips. Samsung is known for its display quality but after OnePlus 8 Pro launch, we can conclude by saying OnePlus is a small step ahead then Samsung. OnePlus 8 Pro's display size is 6.78in having 1440x3168 QHD+resolution, 513ppi and offers 120 Hz refresh rate.

The talking point here is the refresh rate which put OnePlus ahead of Samsung and other brands that offers the same. By default, the device is set to 120 Hz FHD+ out of the box but 60 Hz option is also available. So you can choose 60 Hz to FHD+ / QHD+ or 120 Hz to FHD+/QHD+ if the battery is your concern. Samsung is limited to 120 Hz FHD+, this is where the OnePlus jumps in. Most people prefer 120 Hz to QHD+ because user experience matters and if you have it, why not use it.

The display is Fluid AMOLED, brighter than previous devices, more color accurate, HDR10+ support, an A+rating from Display Mate and SGS Eye Care Display Certification which makes OnePlus to proudly say "this is the best screen you'll see all year". But 2020 is not over yet.

Performance & Software

-It has the latest flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 865/ X55 5G Modem
-8 GB-128GB or 12GB-256GB with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.0

Android 10 is pre-installed and comes with OnePlus's custom Oxygen OS. Fusion of the 120 Hz refresh rate, Snapdragon 865 and Oxygen OS, enhances user experience and feels smooth when shuffling through apps. The performance is legit and won't disappoint anyone. Both phones, One Plus 8 and 8 Pro have 5G connectivity.

Camera

Even though the previous OnePlus devices packed with great specs that gave a tough to other brands, the company couldn't cop up in the camera section. This year with OnePlus 8 Pro, the company managed to compete with Samsung Galaxy S20+, Huawei P40 Pro but it is far "close to" the iPhone. Yes, we can finally appreciate the camera in OnePlus.
It packs with 4 Rear Cameras & a Front Camera:
Main- 48MP, f/1.78, OIS, EIS, Sony IMX689 Sensor
Ultra Wide- 48MP, f/2.2, 120° Field View, Sony IMX586 Sensor
Telephoto- 8MP, OIS, f/2.44
Color filter Lens- 5MP, f/2.4
Front Camera- 16MP, EIS, f2.45

When you open the camera app it is default set to 48MP but when you capture, the photo saved is of 12MP. You can change it in settings and select 48 MP; more pixels mean more details, more image size, 128 GB is enough for big image size but if you are a photoholic you might struggle with the available space. The 12MP mode offers better dynamic range and more colors in different lighting conditions, 48MP needs good light to capture details.
It offers 3x Hybrid Zoom which is great if you are limited to that and captures good quality photo but if you go beyond 3x to 10x or 30x, you'll definitely compromise with the quality, the photo clicked is not you want to upload on Social Media. Nightscape is another feature for low light conditions and it is excellent and takes less time to process the photo compared to other flagships. Color filter lens is the extra camera maybe you don't need it, it offers few filters and can be used as an alternate for Instagram or Snapchat if one needs it. OnePlus has added an extra special color filter "Photochrom".
Photochrom is a x-ray effect that works on plastic and sometimes on clothes, you can check here.
